My daughter Katharine has drawn my attention to a truly poisonous American website dedicated to engendering an E-hate campaign against everything French.  It is awful, simply awful.  But you should nevertheless confront the reality of American public opinion and its fevered state – see   Veto La France!.  Katharine dipped her pen in suitably satirical ink, and responded. Congratulations!  Coming across your campaign to boycott France was such a revelation...   I believe your website will make a valuable contribution to global politics and to the future of international relations. My congratulations to you on producing  the most distilled presentation of the real danger that the world currently faces.

You have inspired me to write to Jaques Chirac myself, to express my support for his strength in the UN, in representing the majority view of the world's nations, and my personal sympathy in the face of the racist hate-mail to which I am now aware he is being subjected.   Rest assured I shall be giving your campaign full credit for the fact that I have been inspired to broaden my  political horizons at this time, to concern myself with supporting France, when I had, until today, been quite single-mindedly focused on the matter of stopping the war.

You have given me all sorts of ideas - perhaps most practical being that I have started listing all the American foods, products, companies, and so forth that I have been lazy enough to buy into until now. With the same kind of dogged commitment you have shown, I am finding French alternatives for each and every one of them, and already I'm finding that I am enjoying a superior diet, decent services and superior literature.

So I really must thank you - just the knowledge that you exist will fuel my political fire for a long time to come. Every day the website exists, and
every additional person to sign up to the pledge, will only provide more evidence to those of us who believe there is something deeply rotten at the heart of America.  For surely, it is the battle against the kind of ignorance, belligerence, narrow-mindedness, imperialism, intolerance and racism that you have been kind enough to show in all its three-dimensional nastiness, that will be the focus of international politics long after Saddam Hussein has been removed (or enthroned, or deified, or martyred or whatever) by the current course of military action.

Tell your friends - and maybe they too will be inspired.  You can even use the Tell-a-Friend e-mail feature on our website and send a note to say how lame VLF! is….   Buy a lot of T-shirts and bumper stickers to have a public burning of them!  

That's fine with us.  Isn't freedom great?
